Florida Private Investigator License Test (2023)

To be blunt and to the point: there's worthless 'junk' out there,
advertised as "useful for IP testing". Attention buyers.
Beware of generic "good for all states" national stuff.

The Licensing Bureau's website doesn't easily answer a frequently asked question:
“I'm an individual, but I want to run an IP agency.
So I want a 'C License' (Individual')
or do I want an 'A' license (agency)?
What's even more confusing is that I can only find test info for 'Test C'!"

Five FL PI members from www.thePIgroup.com were asked for a real-world explanation. They advised:

1. “I would test for a C license. The C license is the 'normal' private detective license.
A C license must work for an agency. Therefore, license A is an agency license. An agency can
have a number of C-licensed researchers working for them.If you work independently/alone,
then you need an A (agency) and C license. There is no exam for the A license.Just some paperwork and money."

2“I am a PI licensed in CA and FL. Unlike most states where a PI can work for themselves or someone else
IP licensed as a subcontractor, or an IP can hire an unlicensed apprentice, Florida requires an IP to work
for an agency. Sort of like a nurse. A licensed nurse must work for a hospital or doctor or other person
authorized body. The same goes for a PI in Florida. I am a "C" license holder. to work for me
I also had to get an "A" license...or work for a person or organization that has an "A" license.
So if you're testing a PI license, you're testing a "C" license".

3. “C is someone who has to work for an agency. A is an agency and the only entity that can advertise,
Legally offering or accepting assignments of intellectual property in Florida. Double the prices."

4. A "Class "C" license is required to be a full-fledged private investigator in Florida. A Class “A” license
Owning a private investigative agency is required. A PI intern must and must have a "CC" license
Complete a class/examination of 40 and work full-time for two years while employed by a class "A" agency.
The mere fact that you have a "C" license does not allow you to work as an IP. Must be an employee of an "A" licensed agency.

5. “A C licensee cannot do anything other than the A license.There is no test for an "A" license.
It is an application and proof of a "C" license from the owner of the agency.An "A" license is for a
investigating authority. It can be a person, a partnership or a corporation. A "C" license is for an individual
is the private detective. A "C" license should work for an "A" agency unless it is
employed by a single lawyer or law firm".

From a 30-year-old private investigator professor:

WORST possibleStudy Methods:
1) Seminars, 2) 'Online' learning and 3) Learning with multiple choice questions
(low retention rate, too many words required for actual knowledge)

At best

Study method:
Read question/answer, question/answer,Question answer, . . .
(straight to memory, higher word priority)

Site inspections of database companies
